Orlando, FL – April 17, 2019 – The Orlando Soca Bowl is pleased to announce it is celebrating National Caribbean American Heritage Month on May 25th, 2019.  This special month of recognition commences in June and is designed to celebrate one of the worlds’ most distinct music, culture and foods.

Music lovers of all kind and novices to the Caribbean culture are welcome to come to the Soca Bowl on May 25, 2019 at 4603 West Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL.

The Soca Bowl will be first of its kind in the Orlando area and Florida, where people of all walks of life will be able to join together to celebrate the Caribbean Culture and its influence.  The event enables participants to enjoy Caribbean dishes and experience some of the diverse culture that the Caribbean has to offer. It will also include booths and representatives from various island Tourism Boards to help share some of the rich history and cultural information of their islands.

The evening culminates with a musical jam session from various Caribbean & Caribbean American artists who will perform Calypso, Reggae and Soca music from the various islands. This is one of the most eagerly anticipated cultural and music events in the area that pays tribute to National Caribbean American Heritage month.

The vision for Soca Bowl comes from Barry Mohammed and Ashly Sarran, local businessmen in the Orlando Area.

“We wanted to create an event that features the different culture from the many island nations, and to display and share what they have in common,” says Mohammed and Sarran.  “We have much to be proud of.  Our former Lt. Governor of Florida, Jennifer Carroll was also Trinidadian born.”

“With the increasing popularity of Caribbean culture, and with the Proclamation issued by President George Bush on June 6, 2006, each year the nation has been celebrating Caribbean culture in the month of June,” states Mohammed.  “This year our group wanted to bring attention to NCAH month by presenting this cultural event for all of the community to enjoy.”

“The goal of this cultural event is to find its place in Orlando and Florida’s cultural calendar,” Sarran says.  “In the future, the event will enhance Orlando’s reputation as one of the world’s greatest ethnic cities in the US.”

This year’s event already looks like it will set a high standard. It is expected that over 8,000 music lovers will descend on the Central Florida Fair Grounds to join in the fun. This event is a celebration of the vitality and energy of the Orlando community, a melting pot of cultures formed by migration of people that have settled from the Caribbean Islands.

“We have extended invitations to the Mayor and the city council as well as the consulate Generals of the various island nations to come celebrate this historic inaugural event,” says Mohammed.

The Soca Bowl event is hosted by Barry Mohammed, Ashly Sarran & Friends.

This year’s event is proudly sponsored by Legacy Liquor, Fat Dog Spirits, and Liquor Masters.
